Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, den Zusammenhang zwischen sozialer Angst, subjektivem Stress, sowie dem Stressmarker Alpha-Amylase im Speichel (sAA) zu untersuchen und zu prüfen, ob soziale Unterstützung den Zusammenhang zwischen sozialer Angst und Stress abfedern kann. Die Stichprobe bestand aus 33 Versuchspersonen (25 Frauen und 8 Männer, durchschnittlich 29 Jahre). Die Teilnehmenden entnahmen an zwei Tagen jeweils sechs Speichelproben. Als Maße der sAA wurde die Gesamtkonzentration über den Tag (AUC) und den Abfall am Morgen (AAR) herangezogen. Zur Erfassung der psychologischen Variablen wurden standardisierte Online-Fragebögen ausgefüllt. "Was wir in den letzten Jahren in Deutschland erleben, zeigt eine Gesellschaft, die unter Angstsymptomen leidet, vielleicht sogar eine angsterkrankte Gesellschaft ist", beschreibt der Psychiater und Stressforscher Mazda Adli in der Radiosendung 'Hörsaal' des Senders Deutschlandfunk Nova. Der Wissenschaftler beklagt die immense Zunahme sozialen Stresses durch neue Formen des Zusammenlebens, belastenden Arbeitsbedingungen, Digitalisierung und die Beschleunigung in allen Lebensbereichen und den damit verbundenen Anstieg stressbedingter psychischer Erkrankungen. Eine Studie der TK-Krankenkasse bestätigt diese Einschätzung: Ungefähr 60 % der erwachsenen Bevölkerung in Deutschland fühlt sich regelmäßig gestresst.
