About the Book

Why should you buy this poetry book from someone who never had any poetry published. Mainly to help your own creativity. I'm leaving a blank page on the right side of the book for you to write or draw, please feel free to rewrite my poems to fit your personal feelings. Many of these poems are longing directed to one particular person. She's my Muse. Whenever possible I wrote them so they could be from a man or a woman. So as to indicate that these poems are trying to reveal that I want to understand other people's feelings by understanding my own. Rhyming has always come easily to me. Mostly the poems are Shakespearean sonnets. You'll find some different styles imbedded in some poems. The poems in this book are romantic with a touch of goofy. Not surprisingly Dr. Suess and Ogden Nash were my favorite poets as a kid. I did read a lot while growing up and enjoyed listening to pop music. So my poetry does reflect music I listened to by the age of thirteen, so that would be pre-1972. I've stuttered all my life. When I was in 7th grade I took a poetry class, my mom encouraged that, so I could express my feelings. Stuttering has enabled me to have an expanded vocabulary. People would tell me they never liked poetry but they enjoy my "stories". To close, I think you'll enjoy reading them time and again. One more thing, I do write with pen on paper then enter them in the computer when ready to publish. February, 1st 2011.
About the Author: If you google Karl Stuber you'll find several. I'm the runner and the street sweeper on Mackinac Island, Michigan. I had worked as a computer operator. Picked that in 1975 because it was a job I thought I could do while deciding what to be when I grew-up. Other creative people (i.e. Elvis Costello) also have the same background, which I found out years later. Was glad when I learned to read. Though I believe my Mom had quite a struggle getting me to that point. So I hid myself in books and listening to 60's pop. At 11 moved to the non-juvenile section at the local library. Liked reading about people on the fringe of society and the classics which I later reread in High School. In school I wanted to be a teacher until most of the teachers I met mostly tried to force the kids to learn in the way the teachers thought they should. It's a shame educators became policeman. In our society. Though I can see where they may have misunderstood my behavior and felt the need to bring me in line so I could be taught. Never was much on learning after teachers would rail on me about not showing my work when working with whole numbers. I could do those in my head. By the time we got to decimals. I had tuned out teachers and treated those as large numbers and only learned about the placing of decimal points. (My brother Eric was like that, don't know about my other siblings). So I had gaps in my education and didn't like being categorized. Skipped the SAT because of that. Chose computers in college because literature was my friend. Thus not challenging enough. Started writing poetry because whenever I had a non-serious insight on a matter, co-workers would rip me apart. So poetry was a way to get my thoughts on paper in hopes that people would see that humor can be used to gain insight. I only hoped I could someday write enough poems for a book. That day has arrived. Karl Stuber
