Was ist der Sinn des Lebens? Warum sind wir hier in dieser Welt? Was ist überhaupt die Welt und wer hat sie erschaffen? Solchen grundlegenden Fragen der Philosophie geht Jochen, der Protagonist dieses Buches, mit großer Beharrlichkeit nach. Wir folgen ihm durch die ersten 40 Jahre seines Lebens und bestaunen charismatische Figuren wie seinen militanten Großvater, den Idealisten Robert, die schöne Perserin Tara oder seinen konservativen Schulpastor. All die kleinen Begebenheiten rund um das tägliche Leben führen aber bei Jochen - trotz ihrer eigentlichen Profanität - immer wieder zu den grundlegenden philosophischen Fragestellungen zurück. Dabei sammelt er in seiner Jugendzeit zunächst nur das auf, was in Schule und Elternhaus gelehrt wird, schwingt sich als junger Erwachsener dazu auf, die Erkenntnisse von großen Gelehrten wie Kant, Einstein oder Newton nachzuvollziehen und kommt im letzten Drittel des Buches zu eigenen Erkenntnissen. Jochen gelangt damit zu einem neuen, eigenständigen Weltbild, welches er aber nicht einfach nur glaubt bzw. verfechtet, sondern auch mit den Erkenntnissen der modernen Naturwissenschaften vergleicht. Dabei entdeckt er überraschende Parallelen zu den Ergebnissen der Experimente der Quantenphysik, die seine Theorien über Gott und die Welt in verblüffender Manier unterstützen. Damit das Ganze nicht zu trocken wird, sind die philosophischen Erkenntnisse eingebettet in seine allgemeinen Lebenserfahrungen, denn Philosophie lernt man nicht durch Bücher, sondern das Leben lehrt Philosophie. Der Leser ist eingeladen, an dieser vergnüglichen Reise durch Jochens Leben teilzuhaben und vielleicht aufbauend auf dem gebotenen Weltbild Anregungen für weitere Untersuchungen zu bekommen.
About the Author: Jochen Pirsig (geboren am 3.4.1961) wuchs im Ruhrgebiet auf, wo er 1985 auch sein Studium als Informatiker abschloss. Mit einer Arbeit über "Naturanaloge Optimierungsverfahren" promovierte er 1993. Seit 1985 lebt er in München, derzeit als alleinerziehender Vater gemeinsam mit seinen beiden Töchtern.
