Der Irakkrieg 2003 war wie kein anderer Krieg zuvor ein Krieg der Medien. Livebilder wurden direkt vom Schlachtfeld in die Wohnzimmer in aller Welt gesendet. Doch der uns so gezeigte Krieg ist nur eine virtuelle Konstruktion der Wirklichkeit. Inszenierung und (Militär-) Zensur bestimmen das Bild, das uns vom Krieg gezeigt werden durfte. Um zu verstehen, wie Krieg sich in den Medien niederschlägt, muss zunächst die Geschichte des Krieges beleuchtet werden. Von den ersten Kriegsreportern bis hin zur medialen Inszenierung von Schlachten gibt die Geschichte der Kriegsberichterstattung alles wieder. In einem weiteren Kapitel werden der Medienkomplex der Kriegscomputerspiele und die Geschichte der Kriegscomputerspiele betrachtet. Von den Anfängen der für unser heutiges Auge primitiven Ballistik-Simulationen bis hin zu hochkomplexen, von der US Armee zu Trainings- und Propagandazwecken entwickelten, Ego-Shootern werden viele Computerspiele, die sich mit dem Thema Krieg auseinandersetzen, etwas genauer betrachtet. Untersucht wird, wie Computerspiele Krieg inszenieren und in wie weit sich diese Inszenierung mit der Berichterstattung auf CNN gleicht. In einem Exkurs wird das vermeintliche Bindeglied zwischen Computerspiele-Industrie und televisueller Kriegsberichterstattung herauskristallisiert: Das US Militär. Es wird aufgezeigt, in wie weit das US Militär vorgibt, was die Fernsehanstalten und deren Reporter zeigen dürfen und in wie weit sich das US Militär in die Entwicklung von Computerspielen mit kriegerischen Inhalten einmischt. In einer abschließenden Analyse wird die Berichterstattung der ersten Kriegstage 2003 auf CNN genauer untersucht. Besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die visuelle Inszenierung des Kriegs gelegt. Die virtuellen, also auf CGI basierenden Animationen, werden mit Darstellungen in modernen Computerspielen verglichen. Zudem wird der Inszenierungscharakter der im Irakkrieg erstmals eingesetzten "embedded reporters", also in die kämpfenden Truppen eingeb
About the Author: Marc Sehr wurde 1984 in Hechingen geboren. Sein Studium der Rhetorik und der Medienwissenschaft an der Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen schloss der Autor im Jahr 2009 mit dem akademischen Grad des Bachelors of Arts erfolgreich ab. In seinem Studium setzte er sich mehrfach mit der Berichterstattung des jüngsten Irakkriegs auseinander. Zudem beschäftigte er sich in seiner Freizeit wie auch im Studium mit virtuellen Systemen und Konzepten der Virtualität in Film, Fernsehen und Literatur.
