Il y a Sheila, qui rêve d'aller valser parmi les étoiles, Richard, qui voudrait rejoindre la lignée de son père et de son grand-père, tous deux pionniers des voyages spatiaux. Pour la première fois depuis le début de l'astronautique, un vaisseau va être expédié dans l'espace lointain à travers un trou de ver, dit trou de Lorentz, un raccourci à travers l'espace-temps, mais au-delà de l'intérêt scientifique d'une telle expérience, c'est aussi la mission de la dernière chance: trouver une nouvelle planète habitable susceptible d'accueillir l'espèce humaine. Mais qui sait ce qu'on trouve au-delà du trou de ver ?
