Giuliano Vasilicò (1936-2015) è stato un protagonista del teatro italiano degli anni Settanta del Novecento, attivo nel particolare contesto delle "cantine romane". Nelle storie del teatro viene fatto spesso appartenere - insieme a Mario Ricci, Giancarlo Nanni, Memè Perlini - al cosiddetto "teatro-immagine". Un'etichetta - dal regista emiliano mai accettata - che, al di là della capacità che a suo tempo ha avuto di individuare un fenomeno e di farlo conoscere, ha poi forse fatto da deterrente alla conoscenza dei singoli artisti che di quel fenomeno sono stati parte. Sul lavoro di Vasilicò, ad esempio, non è stata pubblicata finora alcuna monografia. Il teatro è stato per Giuliano Vasilicò un potenziale mezzo di rivelazione, innanzitutto a se stesso, di aspetti nascosti dell'esistenza. Da qui il titolo "Un teatro apocalittico", visto che apo-kalýptein vuol dire togliere il velo, scoprire. E che l'aggettivo, in accezioni differenti, è facilmente associabile ad uno dei suoi spettacoli più importanti, "Le 120 giornate di Sodoma" da Sade, con la sua ineffabile presentazione del Male in forma di visioni. Tra i principali apporti di Vasilicò alla ricerca teatrale vi sono la sua peculiare modalità di costruzione di drammaturgie non narrative e l'idea del corpo scenico; dello spettacolo inteso, cioè, come organismo compatto, nel quale tutti gli elementi espressivi hanno la stessa importanza nel determinare il senso del lavoro. Il libro riguarda il periodo più felice e proficuo del percorso del regista: quello nel quale, dopo uno straordinario "Amleto" (1971), ha realizzato "Le 120 giornate di Sodoma" (1972), spettacolo-rivelazione dell'intero fenomeno delle "cantine romane", e "Proust" (1976): caso pressoché unico, quest'ultimo, di efficace trasposizione sulla scena del mondo poetico dello scrittore francese. In appendice, un'antologia critica comprendente testi di Giuseppe Bartolucci, Daniele Del Giudice, Roberto De Monticelli, Guy Dumur, André Fermigier, Cesare Garboli, Colette Godard, Gerardo Guerrieri, Dacia Maraini, Alberto Moravia, Jerzy Pomianowski, Angelo Maria Ripellino, Elio Pagliarani, Edoardo Sanguineti, Rodolfo Wilcock ed altri.
About the Author: Fabrizio Crisafulli è regista teatrale e artista visivo. Insegna al DAMS di RomaTre. Nel 2015 l'Università di Roskilde (Danimarca) gli ha conferito la laurea ad honorem per i risultati conseguiti con la sua ricerca teatrale. Sul suo lavoro Artdigiland ha pubblicato il volume "Place, Body, Light. The Theatre of Fabrizio Crisafulli", 1991-2011, a cura di N. Tomasevic (2013). Ha inoltre pubblicato le edizioni inglese e francese del suo libro "Luce attiva. Questioni della luce nel teatro contemporaneo", uscito in italiano nel 2007.
