Tifus es un guión original de Sartre, escrito en 1943 por encargo de la casa Pathé que ahora se publica por vez primera.
Ambientado en un colonia malaya donde se declara una epidemia de tifus, su planteamiento recuerda otras obras anticoloniales de la época, pero invita también a ser leído en paralelo con La pestede Camus, publicada también en Edhasa.
Para llevar a cabo su acerba crítica social, Sartre se sirve de algunos personajes arquetípicos, como la mujer de dudosa reputación que demuestra una mayor moralidad que los burgueses acomodados o el borracho despreciado por todos, verdadera piltrafa humana que sin embargo será el único capaz del más sublime sacrificio.
El caracter de sobrecogedor testimonio de una época de la cultura europea es uno de las más innegables valores de este texto inédito.

About the Author: Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) ha sido uno de los intelectuales más influyentes en el pensamiento occidental. Desde muy joven emprendió una crítica a los valores y tradiciones de la clase social a la que él mismo pertenecía, la burguesía. Ya en sus primeros textos filosóficos, La imaginación (1936) y Bosquejo de una teoría de las emociones (1936) se percibe una originalidad de pensamiento que le conduce al existencialismo, cuyas tesis desarrollará en El Ser y la Nada (1943) y El existencialismo es un humanismo (1946). Su producción comprende tanto el ensayo filosófico, político y literario como el teatro, la narrativa y el guión cinematográfico. Sartre fue un hombre profunda y radicalmente comprometido con su tiempo, lo que le llevó también a dirigir Les Temps Modernes, La Cause du Peuple y Libération. En 1964 se le otorgó el Premio Nobel de Literatura, que rechazó.
