Als bedeutendster Schüler Platons hat Aristoteles zwar wesentliche Konzepte seines Lehrers und Mentors übernommen, jedoch oftmals auch besonders deutlich und radikal mit ihm gebrochen. In der 'theologischen' Schrift der Metaphysik entfernt er sich mit großen Schritten von der platonischen Ideenwelt und nähert sich dem Konzept eines ersten unbewegten Bewegers, der (gemäß der aristotelischen Einteilung vier verschiedener Ursächlichkeiten in der Welt) als letzte Ziel- und Bewegungsursache angenommen wird. Die Welt gliedert sich nach seiner Konzeption nicht in die platonische Ideenwelt und deren Abbilder, sondern strebt letztlich gänzlich nach dem ersten unbewegten Beweger, der ersten ousía. Neben der Arbeit am griechischen Originaltext hat der Autor, Matthias Alexander Schmidt, die Kommentare und Interpretationen von Michael Bordt und William D. Ross in diese Arbeit einbezogen, die eine sehr textgetreue Darstellung und Interpretation des Werkes zur Verfügung stellen. Besonderen Wert wurde auf eine möglichst klare Darstellung der Thesen anderer Philosophen gelegt, die Aristoteles in diesem Teil seines Werkes kritisiert. Außerdem wurde in Ansätzen versucht, einen Zusammenhang zwischen der metaphysischen Strebestruktur der aristotelischen Wirklichkeit und der Konzeption seiner Ethik herzustellen.
About the Author: Der Autor Matthias Alexander Schmidt wurde 1986 in Berlin geboren. Er besuchte das vom Jesuitenorden geführte Gymnasium Canisius-Kolleg und engagierte sich in der verbandlichen Jugendarbeit. Nach dem Abitur absolvierte er ein Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr in Brüssel und nahm regelmäßig an ignatianischen Exerzitien teil. Er studierte Philosophie und Theologie an der Jesuitenhochschule "Sankt Georgen" in Frankfurt am Main und an der Facultad de Teología in Granada, Spanien. Als Journalist arbeitet er bereits neben dem Studium für die katholischen Online-Portale kath.de, explizit.net, hinsehen.net und mehrere Monate lang bei Radio Vatikan in Rom. Er begleitet Kinder im Rahmen der Schulseelsorge und junge Erwachsene Freiwillige in der Bildungsarbeit des Bistums Limburg. Schmidt lebt in Uppsala (Schweden) und in Berlin.
