I personaggi di Antonio Tabucchi devono spesso confrontarsi con una dimensione postuma, agendo in una temporalità sghemba abitata da vivi e da morti. Postumi sono anche i libri e le traduzioni usciti dopo la scomparsa dell'autore, come la raccolta di saggi Di tutto resta un poco e soprattutto il romanzo Per Isabel. Un mandala. Affrontare il tema di Tabucchi postumo significa altresì cominciare la perlustrazione del prezioso fondo donato dai famigliari dello scrittore alla Bibliothèque nationale de France e conoscere i materiali, perlopiù inediti, conservati nell'archivio privato di Lisbona. Attraverso queste collezioni, nei prossimi anni si potrà riportare alla luce quel Tabucchi che ancora non conosciamo. Posteri e postumi sono infine i numerosi scrittori - italiani e stranieri - che hanno consapevolmente accolto l'eredità tabucchiana nelle loro opere.

Gli autori di questo libro hanno declinato l'aggettivo postumo attraverso diverse angolazioni secondo una pluralità e ricchezza di approcci che ha dischiuso promettenti piste di ricerca per gli studi futuri. E viene qui presentata la prima descrizione dettagliata dei tesori custoditi nelle diverse sedi archivistiche.

In apertura del volume sono pubblicati un testo edito e uno inedito dello scrittore. Apparso nel 1997 sul Corriere della Sera e mai più ripubblicato, il primo s'intitola «La Vedovilità che c'è in noi» e costituisce un monito ironico per chi si occuperà dei testi inediti. Il secondo, Sogno di Madonna Fiammetta, dama amata da Messer Boccaccio, rappresenta invece un sogno di sogno disperso. Un nuovo, e affascinante, percorso onirico.

Thea Rimini è assistente di lingua e letteratura italiana all'Université Libre de Bruxelles e all'Université de Mons e collabora con l'Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Bruxelles. Ha ottenuto il dottorato di ricerca presso la Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa e si occupa principalmente delle relazioni tra letteratura e arti visive.
