About the Book

WARNING! This book is not your average business college text filled with theories, unworkable ideas, citations, notations, and appendices. It is experiential by design, and is chock full of workable solutions for the problems faced by small business owners and managers. I have dealt with most of the business problems described in this book personally and have resolved them successfully. Ideally, the book will fill some of the gap in the literature regarding the profitable management of your small business in turbulent economic times. In this book, I have provided a considerable number of practical no-nonsense ideas and suggestions that should help you, as a small business owner or manager, to profitably manage your business. You should be able to implement at least a few of these suggestions to increase your sales and gross margins, decrease your expenses, and implement sensible controls that will enhance your profitability. If you are successful in achieving this, then the purpose of my book will be fulfilled!
About the Author: ABOUT THE AUTHOR - FRANK T. KASUNIC Frank has been a CFO, Controller, VP Finance, Secretary/Treasurer, a financial consultant, and at times Marketing Manager, Operations Manager, and acting President for 25 different companies. These companies have ranged from small startup companies to medium-sized and large companies, and have spanned several different industries. Frank's occupational experience gives him a broad base of knowledge in the following industries: securities, financial planning and consulting, insurance, real estate, transportation, retail sales, agricultural development, and manufacturing. He has proven himself to be a senior financial and administrative manager with the ability to analyze organizations over a broad spectrum, and then determine, implement and achieve results oriented performance objectives. Frank's areas of expertise include accounting, finance, administration, budgets and forecasts, short-term and long-term strategic planning, treasury management, investments, and the management and equity funding of startup and turnaround companies. His accomplishments include managing a turnaround company from an equity position of only $16,000 to over $3,700,000 in three years. He implemented Performance Evaluation and Review Techniques (PERT) and Critical Path Method (CPM) workflow analyses in a critical audit situation resulting in substantial savings for the company. He then directed an information systems conversion from EDS to IBM. Frank has also engineered an IPO for 10% of a company's stock, and has generated other equity funds utilizing joint ventures and private placements. Frank's professional certifications have included the following: a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification, a Series 7 and 24 Securities License, Health & Disability and Property & Casualty Insurance Licenses, and a Real Estate Salespersons License. Frank has a B.S. (Bus) degree with a major in Accounting from the University of Idaho, an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University, and all coursework completed for a Ph.D. in Information Science at Claremont Graduate School. Prior to entering the business world, Frank spent about seven years with the United States Air Force as an aircrew member and instructor, achieving the rank of Captain prior to his honorable discharge in 1970. Frank is a highly motivated and creative chief financial officer who possesses diversified talents, skills and experience. He utilizes these skills to prioritize and focus on the key critical areas that make for business success. Yet, he is hands-on enough to be able to direct daily operations to a successful conclusion. His leadership style is motivational, and he invokes a high degree of team spirit and loyalty in his staff. He displays a can-do attitude and sets realistic and achievable goals and objectives. More importantly, he usually implements those objectives before the scheduled completion date.
