Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Filmwissenschaft, Note: 1,3, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Institut für Film, Theater- und empirische Kulturwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Individualstile, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Drogenkonsum und Abhängigkeit in Requiem for a Dream (2000, R: Darren Aronofsky) ist das Kernthema dieser Hausarbeit. Herausgearbeitet werden soll, welche Bedeutung Drogen in Requiem for a Dream haben und was die Charaktere des Films antreibt, diese zu nehmen. Da die beiden Filme Trainspotting (1996, R: Danny Boyle) und Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas (1998, R: Terry Gilliam) sich ebenfalls mit Drogen auseinandersetzen, ermöglichen sie eine erweiterte Sicht auf Aronofskys Film. Als Sujet waren Drogen im Mainstreamkino bis 1980 weitgehend tabu. Der Grund dafür ist in der kategorischen Ablehnung illegaler Drogen in den westlich orientierten Gesellschaften zu suchen. Damals herrschte - wie heute - oft die irrtümliche Meinung, Drogen existierten nur in der Ober- und Unterschicht, und seien Substanzen, die unabhängig von der Persönlichkeit des Konsumenten auf Anhieb süchtig machten. Die drei in dieser Hausarbeit vorgestellten Filme zeichnen ein anderes Bild, das realistischer und authentischer erscheint. Im ersten Kapitel liegt das Augenmerk auf dem 1996 von Danny Boyle inszenierten Film Trainspotting. Dieser Film zeigt Drogensucht als Lebensstil, als Akt der Rebellion gegen einen von der Gesellschaft vorgeschriebenen Geburt-Schule-Arbeit-Tod-Lebensablauf. Damit lässt er sich weder als Anti- noch als Pro-Drogen-Film einordnen. Seine wertungsfreie Haltung und der Charakter der Rebellion unterscheiden ihn von Requiem for a Dream. Beide zeigen jedoch der Mittelschicht zugehörige Jugendliche und ihren Drogenkonsum im Alltag. Als zweites wird die Funktion der Drogen in dem 1998 von Terry Gilliam inszenierten Film Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas untersucht. Gilliam thematisiert darin weder Drogensucht noch Drogen im Alltag.
