Ein Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Spracherwerbshypothesen näher zu untersuchen, um aus den Erkenntnissen Handlungsansätze für DaZ-Lernende und Lehrende herzuleiten. "Sprache ist allgegenwärtig - durch sie verleihen wir unseren Gedanken und Emotionen Ausdruck und sind in der Lage, mit anderen zu kommunizieren. Sie ist Teil unserer Identität" (Piepenbrink 2010). Sprache ist etwas, mit dem jeder Mensch tagtäglich konfrontiert wird und doch wissen die meisten Leute kaum etwas darüber, besonders wenn es um den Spracherwerb und vor allem den Erwerb einer Zweitsprache geht. Besonders aber für DaZ-Lehrende kann das Wissen über den Verlauf des Zweitspracherwerbs von großem Vorteil sein. Auch wenn bekannt sein sollte, dass der Erwerb der Zweitsprache maßgeblich mit der Erstsprache in Verbindung steht, so gibt es immer wieder Unklarheit darüber, inwiefern Erst- und Zweitsprache miteinander verbunden sind, wenn es um den Erwerb der Zweitsprache geht. Bisher ist es noch nicht gelungen, eine allgemeingültige Gesamttheorie zum Zweitspracherwerb zu entwickeln. In den letzten Jahrzehnten haben sich jedoch verschiedene theoretische Ansätze entwickelt, wie der Erwerb einer Zweitsprache abläuft. Wichtige Bausteine in der Zweitsprachenerwerbsforschung stellen dabei die drei großen Hypothesen, die Kontrastiv-, Identitäts- und Interlanguage-Hypothese, dar. Die Arbeit geht mit der These einher, dass die Hypothesen einen hilfreichen Beitrag liefern, um den Zweitsprachenerwerb zu verstehen.
