Höhepunkte sind das Zerstören von Zivilisationen auf beiden Kontinenten und eine massive rassische Migration durch den transatlantischen Sklavenhandel, der zum Aufstieg rassischer Unterdrückung im Bewusstsein der Europäer führte. Die Auswirkungen des Kolonialismus und den damit verbundenen Handel der Ware "Mensch" führte zu einer globalen Verbreitung der modernen Technologie, der Entwicklung von Kolonialnationalismus sowie zu langfristigen ökologischen Umwandlungs- und Bevölkerungsexplosionen in den europäischen Kolonien. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll untersuchen, wie die Entwicklung der Sklaverei im Zusammenhang mit dem Sklavenhandel innerhalb Europas und den beiden Kontinenten Afrika und Amerika stattgefunden hat. Sie soll zeigen, wie die Sklavenhändler mit Hilfe ihres jeweiligen Staates ältere Handels- und Sklavensysteme in afrikanischen oder indianischen Gesellschaften umformierten. Für die Begründung und Darstellung der oben genannten Thematik werden die folgenden Historiker gemäß ihrer Forschungsergebnisse herangezogen: Susanne Everett zeigt, welche wichtige Rolle die Sklaverei im Verlauf der Menschheitsgeschichte spielte. Vom antiken Griechenland bis zu den amerikanischen Südstaaten des letzten Jahrhunderts zum alltäglichen Leben sind nur einzelne Auszüge daraus. Ihr Buch beschreibt, wie sich die Sklaverei im Laufe der Jahrhunderte entwickelte. Der Sklavenhandel, das Leben der Sklaven und ihre Ausbeutung werden von der Autorin besonders hervorgehoben.
