Was passiert, wenn sich Quentin Tarantino den Zweiten Weltkrieg und den Nationalsozialismus vornimmt, ist in diesem Zitat prägnant auf den Punkt gebracht: Den Zuschauer erwartet ein ungewöhnliches Kino-Märchen, in dem die Guten Rache an den mordenden Nazis nehmen dürfen, das sich hemmungslos bei cineastischen Vorbildern bedient, unterschiedlichste Genres zu einem neuen Ganzen mischt und die Künstlichkeit des Films niemals verhüllt, sondern sie sogar offen in den Kern der Erzählung rückt: Dem Kino wird dadurch die Chance gegeben, über die historische Wirklichkeit zu triumphieren. Ein Blick zurück erklärt, dass Quentin Tarantinos Weg fast unweigerlich ins Filmbusiness und zum filmischen Pastiche führen musste - immerhin wurde ihm der filmische Bezug buchstäblich in die Wiege gelegt, ist er doch nach "Quint Asper", einer Figur aus der TV-Western-Serie "Gunsmoke", benannt. Als Kind verbrachte er außerdem viel Zeit in so genannten "Grindhouses", eher schäbigen US-Vorstadtkinos, die für Trash, B-Movies und Exploitationfilme bekannt waren und sich als Referenzpunkte in Tarantinos Filmen niederschlagen sollten. Mit 17 Jahren verließ er die Schule, um Schauspielunterricht zu nehmen und bekam dank seines enormen Filmwissens fünf Jahre später einen Job in den "Video Archives" in Kalifornien. Hier baute Tarantino seine umfangreichen Kenntnisse über Filme jeglicher Art weit
