Henricus - Edition Deutsche Klassik GmbH Über den Autor: 1880 in Finkenwerder als erstes von sechs Kindern eines Hochseefischers geboren, wird Johann Wilhelm Kinau auf der ersten Ausfahrt mit seinem Vater seekrank und schlägt lieber eine kaufmännische Laufbahn ein. Er wird Buchhalter und Kontorist mit Stationen im thüringischen Meiningen, in Bremen und in Halle an der Saale. Schließlich zurück in Hamburg landet er bei der prestigeträchtigen Reederei HAPAG. Er liebt das Theater und veröffentlicht unter dem Pseudonym Gorch Fock meist plattdeutsche Gedichte und Erzählungen in Hamburger Zeitungen. Sein 1913 erscheinender Roman Seefahrt ist not! macht ihn zu einem bekannten Schriftsteller. 1915 wird er zum Kriegsdienst eingezogen, auf seinen Wunsch hin zur Marine versetzt sinkt er am 1. Juni 1916 zusammen mit 589 Besatzungsmitgliedern des Kleinen Kreuze
