Tibet, das sind sonnengebräunte, rotwangige Menschen, die ihre Schafe und Yaks im Frühjahr auf die Berge führen und mit den ersten Winterstürmen in die Täler zurückkehren. Tibet, das sind Zelte und Lehmhütten, die mit dem Dung der Yaks geheizt werden, quietschende Gebetstrommeln und alte Frauen, die sich vor den Göttern auf den Boden werfen. "rote Krähen im Tibet" zeigt ein anderes Bild: härter, brutaler, realistischer, auch grausam an der hochexplosiven Verwerfungszone zweier Welten. Tibet befindet sich im Übergang vom Mittelalter in die Moderne und überall in Tibet treffen Tibeter und Han-Chinesen aufeinander. Die Rollen sind verteilt. Die Chinesen haben nicht nur das Kommando, sie beuten das Land auch gnadenlos aus, ohne Rücksicht auf soziale- oder Umweltstandards. Haben die Götter den Tibet verlassen, oder sind sie nach wie vor gegenwärtig? Sind die roten Krähen Götterboten, oder eine Metapher für die roten Herrscher? Helfen die Mönche mit ihrem wachsenden Einfluss den Menschen, oder verfolgen sie ihre eigenen Ziele? Der Roman spielt im Osten des Tibet, wo die Amdo-Tibeter wohnen und sich in ihrer Geschichte nicht nur mit dem Vorrücken der Chinesen, sondern auch mit der Minderheit der muslimischen Hui auseinandersetzen müssen. Zwei Berge stehen sich gegenüber, oben im Tibet. Eine Goldmine ist in dem einen verborgen und verspricht Zukunft und Reichtum für den chinesischen Besitzer, ein heiliger Ort auf dem anderen bildet die Verbindung zu den Göttern. Im engen Tal dazwischen liegt die Bezirksstadt Hezuo, wo eine durch und durch korrupte Verwaltung von der Goldmine profitiert und das Leben der Tibeter wie der Chinesen zu lenken versucht. Eine junge Polizistin, halb Tibeterin - halb Chinesin gerät an der Schnittstelle zweier Kulturen in eine ausweglose Lage und kämpft verzweifelt um ihr Recht. Der Autor kennt aus eigener Anschauung den Ort, die Berge, die Menschen und die Natur, von denen er voller Verständnis und Einfühlungsvermögen erzählt. Vom selben Autor erschien 2012 der Umweltkrimi "Basmas Lächeln".
