Philosophie, Literatur und Physik um 1900, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit soll es sein, Musils Erzählung "Die Amsel" unter dem Gesichtspunkt des Möglichen und Wirklichen zu betrachten, dabei sei angemerkt, dass es nicht möglich ist, diese beiden Begriffe als solches auf eine Bedeutungsebene zu beziehen. Daher wird die Frage, nach dem, was wirklich ist, vielleicht zu beantworten sein, nicht aber die nach dem Möglichen, da Musil es als etwas spezifisch-individuelles ansah. Nichtsdestotrotz wird in dieser Arbeit versucht, das Mögliche, das heißt das "Andere", in der musilschen Erzählung freizulegen und dem Wirklichen entgegenzustellen. Musils Schaffen ist gekennzeichnet von einer Vielzahl polarisierender Gegensatzpaare, die das schier unerschöpfliche Bedeutungsspektrum seines Werks nur pointiert erfassen können: Wissenschaft und Literatur, das Mögliche und Wirkliche, das Rationale und Mystische und das Andere neben dem Alltäglichen. Im Kern gleichen sie sich und scheinen nur Variationen eines allumfassenden Themas zu sein: die fortdauernde Suche nach dem, was keinen Namen trägt, da es nicht als etwas Namentliches erfasst werden und nur im Bewusstsein eines Einzelnen zum Ausdruck kommen kann - die Suche nach einer Alternative zu dem tatsächlich Bestehenden. Der österreichische Erzähler des 20. Jahrhunderts stand Zeit seines Lebens stets zwischen dem einen und anderen Extrem, weshalb der Analyse seiner Erzählung "Die Amsel" die Betrachtung der Musilschen Identität als Literat und Wissenschaftler vorangestellt werden soll. Darauf folgend wird eine Übersicht der wiederkehrenden Elemente der drei einzelnen Geschichten erarbeitet, die in einer versuchsweisen Deutung mündet und somit auf den zweiten Hauptteil dieser Arbeit vorbereiten soll.
