Unternehmen konnten erstmalig ihre Stellenanzeigen auf Plattformen im Internet schalten. Die Web 2.0-Technologien haben den elektronischen Rekrutierungsprozess nachhaltig beeinflusst. In Kapitel 2 wird dem Leser der Unterschied zwischen der traditionellen Rekrutierung über die Printmedien und dem Online-Recruiting erklärt. Der nächste Abschnitt zeigt einen idealtypischen Verlauf der klassischen Personalbeschaffung (Print) anhand der folgenden Phaseneinteilung: Personalplanung, Personalsuche, Personalauswahl, Bewerbungsgespräch und Personaleinsatz. In Abschnitt 2.2 erfährt der Leser, wie sich das Internet im Laufe der letzten 25 Jahre verändert hat. Hierbei wird zunächst die Anfangszeit des WWW vorgestellt, bevor der Leser danach einen Einblick in die Web 2.0-Entwicklung erhält. Unterschiede zwischen dem Web 1.0 und Web 2.0 werden anhand von Beispielen verdeutlicht. Zum Schluss wird die Frage geklärt, inwieweit sich das Online-Recruiting von der klassischen Personalbeschaffung abgrenzt. Das Kapitel 3 stellt die wichtigsten Internet-Plattformen des Online-Recruiting vor. Aufgrund der hohen Anzahl an Online-Plattformen musste im Rahmen der Hausarbeit eine Begrenzung erfolgen. Deshalb werden dem Leser die folgenden vier Rekrutierungskanäle beschrieben und erklärt: Unternehmenshomepage, Soziale Netzwerke, Online-Stellenbörsen sowie das Mobile Recruiting.
