About the Book

You get a child, and all of a sudden you're a parent. But how do you bring it up? Annelies Wiersma discovered Linda Kavelin-Popov's books with their 52 inspiring virtues such as courage, enthusiasm and responsibility. She is a Virtues ProjectTM Master Facilitator and gives courses based on Linda Kavelin-Popov's educative methods. In this cheerful book with its comic-strip drawings she brings the theory to life with examples from her courses. And tells us in a touching, funny and intimate way about the practice she knows best: raising her own son.

Linda Kavelin Popov says in the foreword:

"What do all parents want for their children? For them to be happy and for them to be good. The two are deeply connected, because a good character leads to a positive destiny. Every parent also needs tools to bring out the best in each child - to awaken their kindness, respect, flexibility, compassion, and even their joy. Annelies Wiersma offers the honest, open perspective of a mother applying the tools and strategies of The Virtues Project and my book, The Family Virtues Guide to make them deeply useful and totally accessible in everyday life. I heartily recommend that all parents read her book and enjoy her insights, her humour, and her practical wisdom."
About the Author: Annelies Wiersma (1967) is one of the founding members of the Virtues Project in the Netherlands. She laid her hands in "The Family Virtues Guide" in 2001. She became immediately enthusiastic about the virtues approach, did a Facilitator Training in Geneva (with Margaret Mohamed and Sue Ferguson) and a Pace of Grace course (with Linda Kavelin-Popov and Dan Popov). Annelies introduced the virtues approach in her family and in her work as a communication trainer. Annelies also supports translations and Dutch publications of the Virtues ProjectTM. She has been the chair of the Dutch Virtues ProjectTM (Stichting Virtues Project Nederland) since 2004. Annelies owns her own business ACT on Virtues and has been giving advice, coaching and training since 2002 about the five strategies of the Virtues ProjectTM to parents, schools and individuals, both in the Netherlands and abroad (Belgium, Denmark, UK). Next to facilitating workshops and publishing books and other materials, Annelies works as journalist, textwriter and designer. She publishes regularly about the Virtues ProjectTM, for instance in Dutch magazines and she had a weekly column in the Suriname Newspaper. Up until now ACT on Virtues published besides "Raising children with the virtues" a set of 52 virtues cards for young children (with Tiffany Nightingale), a set of 52 virtues cards with cartoons for children age up 9+, "A Pace of Grace" and the set of 100 Virtues Reflection Cards (from Linda Kavelin-Popov) and "The Adventures of Mali & Keela" (from Jonathan Collins). "Graceful endings (Linda Kavelin-Popov), two yoga books based on virtues (Patty Jongemaets) and two drawing books for adults, with virtues reflection questions (Marja van 't Wel) and a virtues diary (2014) with the virtue of the week and virtues reflection quetsions. Linda Kavelin Popov acknowledged Annelies for her work by naming her a Master Facilitator. As Master Facilitator Annelies provides training and mentoring to new facilitators who want to work with groups with the Virtues Project."
