About the Author: Dr. Janet Mort, instead of retiring, went back to university for a PhD in Early Learning after a 40-year career as a primary teacher, principal and Superintendent of Schools. Her intentions were very specific - to understand why approximately 30% of our children do not succeed in primary classrooms and therefore struggle throughout the rest of their school careers without the opportunities afforded to children from literate preschool environments.
