Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Ethnologie / Volkskunde, Note: 1,7, Universität Leipzig (Ethnologie), Veranstaltung: Religion, Ritual, Performanz, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Hausarbeit untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen der protestantischen Arbeitsmoral und der Sozialarbeit der sogenannten progressiven Pfingstbewegung. Grundlage ist die Ethnographie "Global Pentecostalism, The New Face of Christian Social Engagement" von Donald E. Miller und Tetsunao Yamamori, die 2007 erschienen ist. Miller und Yamamori untersuchen Pfingstgemeinden, deren Schwerpunkt nach eigenem Bekunden in der Sozialarbeit besteht. Das nennen sie "Progressive Pentecostalism". Diese Richtung der Pfingstbewegung wächst überwiegend im globalen Süden: dort errichten die Gemeinden Krankenhäuser, machen Sozialarbeit mit Straßenkindern und betreiben Schulen. Miller und Yamamori schlussfolgern aus ihren Beobachtungen, dass diese Bewegung positive Auswirkungen auf die soziale Realität der Gläubigen habe. Das machen sie unter anderem am sozialen Aufstieg der Gemeindemitglieder fest. Hier äußere sich unter anderem der "Geist des Kapitalismus", wie ihn Max Weber vor mehr als hundert Jahren in seinem Werk "Die protestantische Ethik" beschrieben hat. Für mich ergibt sich hiermit die Frage, inwiefern die Orthodoxie der Progressive Pentecostalism tatsächlich in der Tradition der protestantischen Ethik steht. Zunächst werde ich mit dem kapitalistischen Geist befassen und ihn beschreiben. Danach geht es darum, inwiefern die Progressive Pfingstkirche diesen Geist reproduzieren und welche Elemente sich in der Darstellung des Progressiven Pfingstbewegung durch Miller und Yamamori ausmachen lassen. Im weiteren Verlauf möchte ich meine Befunde bewerten und untersuchen, wie sich die Argumentation Webers fortführen lässt auf andere lebensweltliche Praxen, die die progressiven Pfingstkirchen durchführen. Abschließend möchte ich mich kritisch mit den im Buch verwenden Begrifflichkeiten auseina
