About the Book

English summary: This is the first critical collection, with translation and commentaries, of the entire corpus of Latin texts on Heraclitus. Long ignored by pre-Socratic specialists as inferior versions of the originals, these texts offer in fact a rich testimony to the acculturation of philosophy to a new culture. While one could think that the levity of Heraclitus would clash with Roman gravitas, many were intrigued by his language and fiery thoughts. The present volume allows for an thorough examination of the influence of Heraclitus on Roman philosophy and society.
