Ein Normalarbeitsplatz in diesem Sinne ist eine unbefristete, sozialversicherte Vollzeitbeschäftigung. Zwar entstehen derzeit auch wieder Normalarbeitsplätze, dennoch nehmen längerfristig gesehen die atypischen Formen von Arbeit eher zu und die Zahl sozialversicherungspflichtige Vollzeitbeschäftigung ab. Die Definition von prekären Beschäftigungsverhältnissen ist schwierig. Nicht jede atypische Beschäftigung, wie zum Beispiel Teilzeitarbeit, ist auch prekär. Prekär ist Erwerbsarbeit in der Regel dann, wenn der Lohn deutlich unter dem Durchschnittseinkommen liegt, keine zuverlässige Zukunftsplanung für den einzelnen möglich ist und Arbeitnehmerschutzrechte reduziert sind. Prekär sind die Jobs vor allem deswegen, weil sich die Risiken des Arbeitsmarktes hier besonders konzentrieren. Viele Jobs sind unsicher und/oder niedrig bezahlt; die Chance, erneut arbeitslos zu werden, ist besonders groß, Phasen der Beschäftigung und Nichtbeschäftigung wechseln einander ab. Die Ursachen für das Zurückdrängen des Normalarbeitsverhältnisses und die Zunahme prekärer Beschäftigungsformen sind vielfältig. Globalisierungsprozesse und die Internationalisierung der Märkte erzeugen einen hohen Konkurrenzdruck für Wirtschaft und Betriebe. Sie müssen ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit erhalten. Die Lohnkosten spielen hierbei eine wichtige Rolle. Von Arbeitgeberseite werden deshalb prekäre Beschäftigungsverhältnisse oftmals auch als Brücke hin zu gesicherten Arbeitsplätzen verstanden. Welche Formen prekären Arbeitsverhältnissen gibt es? Welche Folgen und Ursachen haben prekäre Jobs? Und was bedeutetes überhaupt, sich in einer prekären Lage zu befinden? Um diese Fragen beantworten zu können, ist es zuerst zweckdienlich, den Begriff zu definieren. Also, im ersten Abschnitt meiner Arbeit
