A Décima Sinfonia tem história. E já se escreveu bastante sobre o assunto. Desde Beethoven, não poucos compositores tentaram compor a décima sinfonia, alguns deles chegaram mesmo a ter receio de encarar a hipótese, pensavam que morreriam antes de a completarem. Diz-se que Mahler deu o título de Canção da Terra àquilo que seria mesmo a sua décima sinfonia. Enfim, parece que, ao que me consta, só Shostakovich ultrapassou, sem nenhum percalço pelo meio, o número nove de sinfonias.Na minha humilde maneira de me ver neste mundo, decidi compor, eu, poeticamente, a minha Décima Sinfonia. Compu-la. E terminei-a. Considerei-a como uma espécie de testamento. Nela verti o meu modo de estar no mundo, os meus valores, os meus desejos veementes de paz entre os povos, o meu horror por todo o tipo de guerras que tornam a vida de tantos e tantos seres humanos um autêntico inferno. O último andamento narra, poeticamente, uma viagem, de Cecília e de Adónis, em direção ao fantástico recinto onde será estreada a Décima Sinfonia. É uma verdadeira casa da música, construída sobre o mar, com um céu estrelado a servir-lhe de cúpula. A orquestra entra, os músicos ocupam os devidos lugares, surge então o maestro, um homem já bastante velho, cabelos brancos em algum desalinho, que vai dirigir a estreia da Décima Sinfonia. Adónis, o autor, estará presente, acompanhado de Cecília. Finda a interpretação, os instrumentos vão-se retirando, até ficar, só, um oboé que toca uma melodia de Joly Braga Santos. A melodia é repetida uma e outra vez, o intérprete do oboé coloca o instrumento sobre a estante da partitura e retira-se. Mas a melodia continua a ouvir-se. Escurece lentamente até de todo. Olhando para cima, vê-se um céu estrelado imenso. E é o fim. O fim inesperado, talvez o fim desejado. A partir da Décima Sinfonia não haverá mais palavras, nem mais música. Morrer será assim, uma espécie de som saudoso a apagar-se, de luz a apagar-se até ficar só o cintilar das estrelas no universo a evoluir, mas muito mais lentamente, para o seu próprio fim.
