Auf dieser Basis bietet dieser Wandel Automobilherstellern die Chance vom Produkt- zum Plattformgeschäft zu wechseln. In diesem Buch werden speziell auf Connected-Cars abgestimmte Geschäftsmodellmuster vorgestellt und auf ihre konkrete Anwendung hin bei den deutschen Premiumherstellern Mercedes, Audi und BMW sowie bei der US-Konkurrenz Tesla untersucht. Ein Connected Car hat nicht nur eine Internetverbindung, sondern kommuniziert mit anderen Geräten, Netzwerken oder Services außerhalb des Autos. Dazu gehören andere Fahrzeuge, das zu Hause, das Büro und öffentliche Infrastrukturen. Automatisierte, autonome und individualisierte Services sind dabei die Grundlage für neue Geschäftsmodelle, welche den Erlöspool von Automobilherstellern und Komplementoren nicht nur erweitern, sondern auf lange Sicht auch bestimmen könnten. Insgesamt 17 plattformbasierte Geschäftsmodellmuster werden anhand von geeigneten Beispielen umfassend erklärt. Anschließend werden diese im Hinblick auf das Ausmaß und den Kontext der Anwendung bei den vier eingangs genannten Automarken geprüft. Eine spezielle tabellarische Darstellung der Ergebnisse ermöglicht einen strukturierten Überblick der Erkenntnisse über alle Geschäftsmodelle und Automarken hinweg. Thematisiert wird darüber hinaus auch die teilweise bessere Umsetzung von modernen Geschäftsmodellen im Mittelklassesegment am Beispiel des Konkurrenten Volvo.
