Il n'est pas de notion qui convienne autant a la philosophie que celle qui porte sur le travail: en effet, celui-ci sort la matiere (le materiau malleable) de son inertie et de sa lourdeur pour le plier aux desirs de l'homme (la marchandise), grace a l'ingeniosite ou du moins a la participation active de l'ouvrier. Nous cherchons a concevoir l'essence meme du travail, bien qu'il se traduise, au cours de son evolution, par des formes et statut dissemblables; nous montrons d'ailleurs, pourquoi et comment nous passons d'un type d'organisation a un autre, plus performant. On ne saurait theoriser le travail en soi, puisqu'il s'est a plusieurs reprises, renouvele - mais les variations ne devraient pas nous empecher d'acceder au principe fondamental qui le caracterise. Au cours de notre examen, nous ne manquerons pas d'insister sur les modifications dont il a beneficie, mais aussi sur les injustices flagrantes qui compromettent son fonctionnement (la cassure sociale). Il est mieux protege afin qu'il puisse etre davantage et plus durablement exploite. La jeune equipe de Philosophie de Lyon n'a pas ignore les questions d'epistemologie (la Science, ses problemes, ses methodes, ses resultats). Mais elle n'a pas evince pour autant le politico-social (les machines, les usines, les salaires, la violence, les horaires, l'alienation).
About the Author: Francois Dagognet, philosophe, a enseigne dans plusieurs lycees, puis a la Faculte des Lettres de Lyon, enfin a celle de Paris I-Sorbonne.Jean-Claude Beaune, professeur honoraire de philosophie des sciences a l'Universite Jean Moulin, Lyon III. Auteur d'une dizaine d'ouvrages sur la philosophie et l'histoire des techniques. Directeur de la collection Milieux aux editions Champ Vallon (Seyssel)Gerard Chazal, professeur emerite d'histoire et philosophie des sciences a l'Universite de Bourgogne, s'est interesse a travers plusieurs ouvrages aux machines et particulierement aux machines informatiques.Robert Damien est l'auteur de Bibliotheque et Etat (Puf 1995), de La Grace de l'auteur (Encre marine, 2001) et de Le Conseiller du prince de Machiavel a nos jours, genese d'une matrice democratique (Puf, 2004).Daniel Parrochia, d'abord charge de recherches au Cnrs a ete successivement Professeur aux universites de Toulouse-Le Mirail, Paul Valery-Montpellier 3 et enfin Jean Moulin-Lyon 3.
