" complètement idiots, des explosions de petits rires imbéciles, tels que peuvent en avoir des huîtres chatouillées par un doigt espiègle, des petites réponses spirituelles de nature à vous faire lever les bras et à pousser des hurlements de douleur; et au milieu de toutes ces minauderies et manières précieuses, le sang-froid merveilleux d'un guerrier blanchi sous les armes, de temps en temps un regard dérobé acéré et impitoyable sur une rivale, un jugement cruel ou haineux sur sa personne et sa toilee, une estimation boutiquière minutieuse du prix ce celle-ci, l'observation scientifiquement exacte ce la durée de sa conversation avec les différents messieurs, et la constatation du nombre de ses danseurs et adorateurs; et au cours de ce froid calcul de tête, à tout instant un agenouillement mental enthousiaste devant sa propre personne, et la répétition de la fervente litanie d'adoration personnelle: C'est toi qui es la plus belle, la plus intelligente, la plus gracieuse de toutes."
