About the Book

Picture this. It's late. You shout, Time for bed.

You hear: I don't want to go to bed., or It's too early., or Why does Jeremy get to stay up longer?, or there's a monster under my bed!, or I have a stomachache.

Now, thanks to Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes you will hear your child tell you when it's Time for bed. Imagine your child and you laughing the first time you get to pages 8 and 9. As you turn more pages, the smiles will turn to laughs. As you continue to read, your child will appear to be dancing under the blanket. Your child may not be asleep after the first reading, but will be in a joyful, relaxed state of mind.

After a few readings, children usually are asleep, or about to fall asleep. Each night you read Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes, you and your child are sharing a new venture and creating a long-lasting bond.

Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes successfully takes full advantage of the author's firsthand knowledge of two key factors. First, Burt knows children. He has five children, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Second, he developed a unique sleep technique after an accident that fractured his L1 vertebra. At that time, he could hardly move and was unable to sleep. After several weeks in bed, and with limited body movement, Burt perfected a bed-bound routine that cleared his mind, minimized his pain and allowed him to fall into a long, deep sleep.

Burt blended his sleep technique with personal experience of getting children ready for bed resulting in Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes. The original title was Wiggle Your Ears, but Burt quickly learned that most children could not wiggle their ears.

Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes is ideal for parents and grandparents, or day-care centers, reading to children. It's also effective for older children that prefer to read by themselves. It's not surprising that teen-agers and adults also find the book helps them sleep better.
About the Author: The author, Burton Bernard, has been successful in a variety of business and personal ventures. None of which prepared him for writing a book for children. However, Burt never starts a project that is not carefully planned in every detail. He is confident that his new book Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes will bring joy to many children and become a rewarding venture.

Burt was born and raised in Chicago's inner city. At the age of twelve, he was awarded a scholarship to the Art Institute in Chicago. At the age of sixteen, he had a paper route for a daily afternoon paper. Burt liked to sleep late but the Sunday issue had to be delivered early Sunday morning. Burt hired a friend to deliver the Sunday paper while he slept.

At the age of eighteen, Burt won Gold and Bronze Medals at the Central AAU Swim Meet; was the youngest player on a National Water polo Team; and as a lifeguard, saved a cow from drowning in Lake Michigan.
Burt was a Ham Radio operator (K9PRK). Repairing TV sets was one of many jobs he had while attending the University of Illinois majoring in Architectural Engineering. After two years, he realized that studying electronics and physics would be better for his long-term interests and objectives.

That summer Burt took a series of tests offered by the U.S. Navy to determine where potential recruits could best serve. Burt scored high on the administrative and technical tests. He selected a rank that would guarantee him 44 weeks (five 8-hour days per week) of schooling in electronics, optics and computers plus another 6 weeks of specialized teaching of onboard gun-fire-control equipment.
Burt joined the Navy. His thinking was that the schooling would be equivalent to a physics degree at Illinois without the required electives plus no tuition and getting paid. He enlisted for four years and spent the last two years aboard a Navy destroyer. He was a 2nd Class Petty Officer. In Boot Camp, Burt was selected as Commander of Troops for the Graduation Ceremony.

After leaving the Navy, Burt started work at a small company that developed infrared instruments for scientific and medical research. As Burt learned more about the potential of infrared instrumentation, he started writing articles for technical and industrial magazines. His plan was that each article would be a chapter in a book that he would eventually write. After eleven articles, Burt wrote the book, ABC's of Infrared. He also has a U.S. Patent for a Temperature Control Technique using an infrared radiometer.

A Fortune 100 Company hired Burt to establish a new department in Silicon Valley to develop commercial laser products using previously classified information. New products were created, but Burt left after three years of corporate red tape.

Burt was now prepared and destined to be an entrepreneur. With $2,000, Burt founded a multi-million-dollar laser corporation. He was Chairman and CEO for fourteen years.
Burt was selected by the U. S. Chamber of Commerce to Chair the First International Colloquium on Lasers in Tokyo. The Laser Institute of America elected Burt a Fellow.

Burt has been supporting several non-profit organizations. He was a Director and President of the Laser Institute of America; President of San Francisco Theatre Guild; Director and Finance Chair of Access Sacramento and Director and Finance Chair of the Strauss Festival of Elk Grove.

Burt and his wife, Raquel, have been married for over 45 years. They are a perfect match. They are inseparable (except during any sporting event between Chicago and San Francisco). They enjoy family gatherings with their five children, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burt and Raquel love to travel. They have been to 48 countries.

Burt has now completed his first children's book. He has enjoyed the experience and is already working on the next children's book. Then maybe one for adults?
