Así lo expone el libro Nacozari de García, Tres siglos de historia y minería, una obra que proyecta una amplia panorámica histórica de Nacozari de García, en la que el lector verá cómo los riquísimos yacimientos de cobre matizan con su brillo metálico el registro histórico, y soplan vida a una comarca antes desierta. El serio y dedicado trabajo de investigación de Ernesto Ibarra, autor del libro, transporta al lector a los orígenes de este lugar, en donde en una remota intersección de la historia los nativos colisionan con misioneros, conquistadores y exploradores europeos, en un diverso y tumultuoso contexto en el que eventualmente lo que se impone es la eminencia del cobre. De esta manera, el metal rojizo demanda y mantiene un lugar preponderante en el mapa de esta zona de Sonora --y del mundo--, atrayendo inversión, logística, fuerza laboral, infraestructura y población, así como la inminente, innovadora y estridente llegada del ferrocarril. Si bien la profusa extracción del cobre pone en movimiento maquinaria y esfuerzo humano, también crea el sombrío escenario en donde se evita una tragedia de mayores proporciones por la rápida intervención --aunque fatal-- de un ferrocarrilero que inmortaliza su nombre con un acto heroico a favor de la población. La política, el arte y la cultura brotan paulatinamente, fusionadas a la extracción del cobre, dando forma y enriqueciendo el registro histórico de Nacozari de García. Ibarra plasma en su trabajo literario un mural histórico que refleja cada aspecto relevante de esta ciudad, aportando así no solamente el trabajo más reciente sobre el tema sino uno no fácil de igualar. Las decenas de fotografías inéditas que recopila el autor y que forman parte de Nacozari de García, Tres siglos de historia y minería, dan un balance apropiado al texto y, en su conjunto, letra e imagen producen una sólida obra digna de ser consultada por estudiosos, disfrutada por el público en general, y atesorada por quienes --de una u otra manera-- están vinculados a Nacozari de García.
