About the Book

This wonderful book is written for students of both Arabic dance and percussion to complete their basic knowledge needed to pursue a career in this art form. The knowledge is to help those who either have no availablity to educated professionals or to those who need more education than their teachers can provide. For more information research the dance, percussion and music yourself.
About the Author: Morwenna Assaf is the Dance Director for both Art/Dance Academy and CEDAR Productions. She has been an Arabic dancer, instructor and choreographer for 40 years. She studied in New York City with the foremost proponent of the dance in the world. She continues to study to this day. She sponsors and studies the works of the Master Mr. Mahmoud Reda, Cairo, Egypt. She sponsors seminars with known names. Morwenna is a member of NDA, APPHERD, CAPHERD, CID-UNESCO and NATCMED. She has studied management courses and seminars with Rhee Gold of MA and the Dance Studios Mastermind Group with Sam Beckford in Vancouver, BC. Has taken numerous courses in colleges and various private groups.. But her forte and the dance company is the Eastern Arabic (The Levant) countries, namely, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Palestine. She was inducted into the American Middle Eastern Hall of Fame in New York City in 1994 for her contributions, choreography and research in this art form. She was nominated Best Instructor 2001. She writes books for those interested in Arabic Dance Studies. She has been on the staff of several dance magazines. She has taught dance CAPHERD for the past 16 years in Palm Springs and Riverside, CA. She has also taught for Amani in Lebanon in 2011with a request to return again. Every year or so, she does a teaching tour of New England. Plus Morwenna teaching in Mexico. She currently teaches her Elite Circle of dancers, regular students and is on the staff fro Mira Costa College. Research and writing are at the base of her learning curve at this time. She has completed 5 books for Middle Eastern Dance Training. This is her 6th. Walid Assaf has performed throughout the world with master musicians and singers from the Middle East. Walid has worked just about every venue on the east coast and also San Diego County. With his wife he assists in bringing stars from around the world to be introduced to American audiences so they can have the feeling of understanding other cultures. Walid teaches all styles of Arabic percussion including derbecki, tar, tabl-beledi and tambourine. He not only plays several percussion instruments very masterfully, but he is a very qualified DJ and singer. He can provide also sound system for any function. Walid is the manager and directs CEDAR Productions from the publishing. All books CDs etc. are written by Tales 1001 but the production of such is done through CEDAR Productions. Our motto is to grow like a Cedar of Lebanon.
