Dies trifft insbesondere bei Sanierungen zu, bei denen Kostensenkungsprogramme eine entscheidende Rolle spielen, um das langfristige Überleben der Unternehmen sicherzustellen. Den inkrementalen Wandel, der auch als kontinuierliche Verbesserung bezeichnet wird, sind Mitarbeiter eher bereit mitzugehen als den radikalen Wandel, da diese ebenfalls vom Personalabbau betroffen sein könnten. Dies schürt bei den Mitarbeitern Ängste und führt daher häufig zu hohen Fluktuationen. Daher ist es wichtig, dass das Management die Mitarbeiter aktiv in die Veränderungen einbezieht, um diese zu befähigen als Change Agents zu fungieren, damit diese den Wandel aktiv mitgestalten. Hierzu ist es entscheidend, das Schlüsselpersonal zu identifizieren, auf welches ein Unternehmen nicht verzichten kann. Dem Management und dem Schlüsselpersonal wird die Aufgabe zuteil, die Mitarbeiter des Unternehmens auf der Reise der Veränderung aktiv zu begleiten, sodass das Unternehmen nach der strategischen Neuausrichtung von einem geringeren Niveau wieder nachhaltig wachsen kann, damit die verbleibenden Mitarbeiter eine prosperierende Zukunft haben. Eine offene Kommunikation und eine sehr gute Transparenz seitens des Managements, welches überdies als Einheit auftreten sollte, tragen dazu bei die Mitarbeiter auf der Reise
