About the Book

"Where is my father?" She asked when the other couple did not join them in the car.
"Lorna was not feeling well and so he offered to take her back to the boat. He knew that you would be in good hands." Those hands were at that moment removing the bow tie and loosening the buttons of his collar. Cara watched those hands, they were mesmerizing and she found it hard to look away. The heat seeped into her face and she was glad that the light was dim in the car.
"Does it bother you?" His raised brow told her that he needed a bit of clarification. "My father and Lorna, I mean she is your assistant." A devilish twinkle lit the man's face and she knew that she had opened up something and he was going to have fun with it.
"I guess it should, but I figure since I have laid claim to his daughter then we are even." Cara really wished she could tell if he was joking or not. It was just so hard with him.
"You can not lay claim to someone like a piece of property." Cara rubbed her feet. They were a little sore from the shoes that had been a little too tight but she had to make due on such short notice.
"Why not?" Now she thought she could tell that he was joking. There was a hint of laughter just under the surface. Then again he might be serious. After all he was used to getting what he wanted when he wanted it.
"Because people have feelings and ideas of their own, and you can't just take that away." Or had he already done that? Sitting here in the close confines of the car made her question everything.
"I told you before, Cara, that I marked you and I did. You can fight me as long as you want too. I will win. I always do." The confidence dripped from him.
"Well maybe you should lose for once." The car came to a stop and Cara busied herself putting the shoes back on. Grant held the door for her and led her to his boat. Before boarding the boat he stopped and turned her to face him.
"I never lose." Pulling away from him she made her way on board and then to her room. She had to get out of this dress and into something more comfortable. The evening had been a nice one if she did admit that to herself. Grant had been the perfect escort, keeping his hands mostly to himself. She wondered if he was already getting tired of the game. She knew that he would and she was not sure if she would be ready for it. Even more of a reason to keep him at a distance. Who was she kidding? Keeping him at arms length would be like out swimming a hungry shark. It just was not going to happen.
