Las únicas gratificaciones vendrán del mar, en el que, sin embargo, ahogará una y otra vez sus dramas y sus infinitas y tristes soledades compartidas con su tío. Por orgullo, decidirá poner fin a una larga historia de amor iniciada con Federica, una mujer acomodada, hija de una familia de un pueblo rival, debido a los continuos desacuerdos con sus padres; la decepción y el fracaso de esta importante historia aumentarán su desaliento, desviándolo de su concepto de amor y familia, lo llevarán entre varias pasiones, viajando entre Francia y España, su país natal. Pero en el momento de total resignación, una mujer especial entrará en su vida haciéndolo feliz. En el mejor momento, Antonio tendrá que enfrentarse a situaciones dramáticas, de peligro y de precariedad económica que lo harán tambalearse; siempre luchará por la libertad, por la defensa de su familia y de su mar, dando ejemplo de cómo permanecer unidos y conservar solo los valores de antaño, el amor será el máximo común denominador y la mayor fuerza de la familia.
