The Life Lies and Legend of a Gambling Man is a story about a ruthless gambler, the son of Russian immigrants, who commits a serious crime in the early fifties and escapes South Carolina by hopping a freight train leaving his wife and newborn daughter behind. Alex changes his name to avoid the law and makes a living playing poker and betting at horse and dog tracks as he travels cross country living the life of a hobo. The train eventually takes him to Chicago where he goes to work for the Mob. When he's arrested for a petty crime, he becomes an informant for the FBI. He becomes a gangster and stashes money that he steals from the Chicago Mob. When the heat is on, he catches the next train out of town. The gambling man's adventures eventually take him to Las Vegas where he plays poker and cheats at the crap tables. His winnings allow him to accumulate a lot of money and he buys a casino. Alex Sutherland amasses fortunes in the gambling world.He designs a one of a kind gaming system that he believes will change the way people gamble around the world. He's in trouble when he turns the idea over to a shyster lawyer named Harry Castaneda.Ellie, the daughter he leaves behind grows up and goes to law school. Alex reaches out to her when she becomes an adult and they reunite. Ellie moves to Las Vegas to help Alex with his gaming ventures. The story tells some of the history of Vegas gambling from the 1950's to the present. Once in control of Alex's affairs, Ellie advances Alex's empire to include poker tournaments and online gaming.The Life Lies and Legend of a Gambling Man covers some of the mob's involvement in the early days in Las Vegas and introduces the reader to the new day online gaming industry, covering many topics and issues that face the gaming world today. The book is based on both fact and fictional information gathered by the author Anita Waggoner over a time period when she was invested in a similar gaming venture. The book is well written and holds your attention. Anita has a way of bringing her characters to life. Mature readers of both sexes will enjoy this book.
