About the Book

This is one of the friendliest, happiest and liveliest dogs in the world. Even though he is a great worker, he only thinks about playing and being happy. That's why the best way to educate him is through games. The Labrador Retriever is absolutely harmless to fairly big children but he can be 'dangerous' to the little ones because he is too strong for them: he could for example hurt them while playing with them. He is very patient with kids, but you have to be careful regarding his playful personality when in contact with little kids because he can hurt them involuntarily. His joyfulness makes him an 'overexcited' dog who can't stop wiggling, running, jumping, and playing. You have to educate him through games and establish a complicity with his master. Simple orders must be given to him since a young age to channel his energy and to make him calmer when he gets older. Mutual respect is crucial in a good education. With too much authority, you will 'break' the dog, and if you let him do whatever he liked, it will be hellish. Like all retrievers, he is a tireless worker, very affectionate and easy to educate if you are not overly authoritarian. He can be a great companion dog. Theoretically, he can live in an apartment if he gets a perfect education. If he doesn't get one, however, the apartment won't resist him, and a garden will be preferable. The Labrador is a friendly dog, faithful, intelligent, ardent, docile, kind, attentive, devoted and playful. He has the instinct of 'getting back', he loves water -you should let him play in this element after a perfect education - and an excellent recall. The Labrador is a hunting dog, he is a retriever, especially in rivers thanks to his great smelling sense, his sweet tooth and his exceptional swimming abilities. He is also used as a scent hound. This dog loves to eat, you will have to control his weight. He isn't always conscious of his force, you will have to be careful especially to his wiggling tail. People do not usually fear him, but he is a 'biter'. If he receives a guarding education, he can be a good protector. In Europe, he is one of the dogs that bite the most, statistically speaking (2016 statistics).
