Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Total Quality Management (TQM) als Managementsystem stellt das Konzept zur Schaffung eines Qualitätsbewußtseins auf allen Unternehmensebenen dar. Für die Umsetzung des Systems in der betrieblichen Praxis sind inhaltliche Orientierungen nötig, mit denen die Forderungen des TQM konkretisiert werden. Die bekanntesten Modelle sind der japanische Deming Application Prize (Deming Prize) und der US-amerikanische Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBA). Nachdem Japan und die USA durch die Anwendung der Modelle ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit erheblich steigern konnten, reagierte Westeuropa auf diese Herausforderungen mit der Einrichtung der European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), einer Stiftung zur Förderung von TQM. Die EFQM entwickelte ein Bewertungsmodell, um den TQM-Gedanken im Unternehmen umzusetzen. Das EFQM-Modell beinhaltet neben weiteren acht Kriterien das Kriterium Gesellschaftliche Verantwortung/Image, um die Unternehmen in das sie umgebende gesellschaftliche Umfeld zu integrieren und die Anforderungen der Gesellschaft zu erfüllen. Eines der Kernprobleme, sowohl in der Diskussion um die gesellschaftliche Verantwortung der Unternehmen, als auch in der Auseinandersetzung um die Unternehmensethik, ist die Frage nach der praktischen Umsetzung der gesellschaftlichen Verantwortung im Unternehmensalltag. In diesem Zusammenhang müssen die Unternehmen eine Hilfestellung in Form eines Kriterienkatalogs oder von Kennzahlen erhalten, die erläutern, welche Unternehmenshandlungen für das Thema relevant sind und wie die gesellschaftliche Verantwortung des Unternehmens gemessen werden kann. Gang der Untersuchung: Das Ziel der Arbeit besteht darin, sich mit dem Kriterium Gesellschaftliche Verantwortung/Image des EFQM-Modells auseinanderzusetzen. Dazu gehören die Beschreibung des EFQM-Modells, das für die Umsetzung des Modells in der betrieblichen Praxis notwendige Instrument Selbstbewertung, die wissenschaftliche Einordnung der Verantwo
