Das Problem der vektoriellen und damit mehrdimensionalen Darstellung der Aktions- potentiale war von Anfang an mit der Entwicklung der Elektrokardiographie aufs engste verknupft. So hat bereits EINTHOVEN auf die vektorielle Natur des eindimensional regi- strierten, lokal abgeleiteten Elektrokardiogrammes hingewiesen. Obwohl technische Grunde seiner Genialitat damals Grenzen gesetzt haben, hat er durch seine Arbeiten uber den "manifesten Vektor" die weitere Entwicklung der "Elektrokardiographie" schon damals eindeutig festgelegt. Heute nimmt die Vektorkardiographie, dank der intensiven Entwicklung der Elektronik wahrend der letzten zwei Jahrzehnte und den damit ver- bundenen technischen Verbesserungen in der Klinik einen festen Platz ein. Da sie den Ablauf der Aktionspotentiale in physiologischer Weise erfaBt, greift sie weit uber das kon- ventionelle Elektrokardiogramm hinaus und ist der eigentlichen Quelle der Vorgange sehr nahe geruckt. Eine der Hauptschwierigkeiten - und damit wohl einer der Grunde, warum die Vektorkardiographie neben der Elektrokardiographie auch heute noch nicht uberall voll zur Anerkennung gelangt ist -liegt wohl darin, daB sie ein dreidimensionales Denken ver- langt, eine Vorstellungswelt, welche dem Mediziner nicht a priori gegeben ist. Der raumlichen Vorstellung ist der Arzt allerdings bereits in der Anatomie begegnet und die Anknupfungs- punkte sind damit an sich gegeben. Er wird deshalb mit einiger Ubung auch aufdem Gebiete der elektrophysiologischen Vorgange rasch ein dreidimensionales Denken erwerben konnen. Die damit erlangte Synthesezwischen anatomischerundelektrophysiologischer Vorstellung stellt das eigentlicheZiel jeder "elektrokardiographischen" Diagnostik dar. Gerade in dieser synoptischen Betrachtung des Ablaufes der Aktionspotentiale liegt der eminente diagno- stische und didaktische Vorteil der Vektorkardiographie.
