Nordhausen am Harz in der Goldenen Aue, kurz vor Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs, in der Osternacht. Ein Madchen wird von einem amerikanischen Bomberpiloten verbrannt. Seine Knochen graben sich tief in die verletzte Erde. Im Fruhjahr 1953 wird uber ihnen ein neues Haus gebaut. Dort wird nicht viel spater wieder ein Madchen leben, mit ihrer Familie. Die beiden, eines im anderen wiedergeboren, treffen sich. Im Keller. Das Madchen, hellsichtig, mit den Toten und Lebenden verbunden, macht sich auf den Weg durch ein verwundetes Land. Wust, ode, zerstort. Es schlagt sich durch Walder, in denen grausame Gotter hausen, befreit Kinder aus der Gewalt eines Systems, verbindet sich mit Tieren und Elementen. Ein Gebirge, zerkluftet und finster, Bergwerke und Kombinate, Polikliniken und Schulen, Kirchen und Kinderlager werden zu Schauplatzen, in denen Gesetze regieren, die fremd und machtig sind. Bei jedem Schritt stoßt das Madchen auf die Schrecken eines blutigen Jahrhunderts. Um diesen Schrecken zu bandigen, sieht es ihm ins Auge. Die Welt, die das Madchen durchstreift, genugt nicht. Sie muss noch einmal erschaffen werden. In der Nordhauser Gegend am Harz hilft die Geistin einem muden Gott, das Gefuhl der Sinnlosigkeit seiner Schopfung zu uberwinden. Gemeinsam gehen sie erneut ans Werk. Wahrend das Madchen sich immer konkreter und fantasierend zugleich in die Realitat erzahlt. So, wie es die Welt erlebt und sein eigenes Leben darin sucht, erschafft es eine Saga. Auf seiner Reise durch die kollektive Geschichte und die eigene Gegenwart, durch Erinnerungsbilder und Bewusstseinsraume, befragt das Madchen die Gewissheiten des Familie, Religion, Staat, Gesellschaft. Unablassig stoßt es auf Grenzen. Die seines Landes, seiner Familie, die eigenen. Es will sie uberspringen. Getrieben von einer brennenden Sehnsucht. Es will frei sein. Gott stirbt lachelnd. Die Geistin traumt seinen Traum. Den ganzen Schrecken noch einmal vor Augen. Die Mauer fallt. Das Madchen legt die Hand auf seinen Bauch. In ihm entsteht ein neues Leben. Keller ist ein Pladoyer fur Liebe und Menschlichkeit.
