Weltkrieg, Weimarer Republik, Note: 2,7, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der erste Weltkrieg stellte für jedes der kriegsführenden Länder eine neue Ära der Kriegsführung dar. Die neue Technologie und die Industrialisierung boten Waffen wie Kampfgas und Flugzeugeinsatz. Aber auch der Stellungskrieg trat zum aller ersten Mal auf und eine hohe Zahl an Opfern. Der Imperialismus sollte auch seine Rolle im Krieg tragen, indem er speziell für Deutschland Gebietserwerbungen verlangte. Doch auch die Einstellung - auf Deutschland bezogen - trug seine Rechnung. Glaubte man, dass der Krieg schnell und siegreich enden würde und das Land aus seiner politischen Isolierung treten könne- nicht zu vergessen die mit Kriegsgewinn möglichen Forderungen nach Annexionen -, wurde man im Verlauf der folgenden Jahre schwer enttäuscht: neben kurzzeitigen Siegen hatte Deutschland hohe Verluste an den Fronten vor allem im Westen zu zahlen. Mit der englischen Seeblockade kam im Winter 1917 die Hungersnot. Auch das letzte Kriegsmittel, der U- Booteinsatz, war zum Scheitern verurteilt und zog noch den Eintritt der USA gegen die Mittelmächte nach sich. Die neue Kraft Sozialismus, die zum Sturz des russischen Zarentums führte, bahnte sich ihren Weg nach Deutschland, was die Angst auf Seiten der Monarchie vergrößerte und ein weiterer Faktor war, der die Politik im Lande beeinflusste. Der damalige Reichskanzler Bethmann Hollweg sah sich also einer Vielfalt von Problemen gegenüber, ohne sich auf Erfahrungen früherer Zeiten zurückgreifen zu können. Seine Politik der Diagonale, die die Sozialisten und die Konservativen zusammenhalten sollte, provozierte das Gegenteil. Auch der Kaiser, der neuen Lage nicht mächtig, sah sich gefangen zwischen seinen militärischen Beratern und dem von ihm ernannten Reichskanzler und versuchte wie B.H., einen Mittelweg zu gehen, der letztendlich zur Entlassung des Reichsk
