About the Book

Johann Melchior Gletle (1626-1683), in Bremgarten/AG geboren und als Dom-Organist und -kapellmeister in Augsburg tätig, hat eines der umfangreichsten und beeindruckendsten OEuvres eines Schweizer Komponisten des 17. Jahrhunderts hinterlassen. In dieser Edition wird erstmals sein komplettes op. 5 publiziert, das durch die Verbindung des modernen italienischen «Konzertierenden Stils» und der Polyphonie der traditionsreichen Gattung Motette charakterisiert wird und in seiner Faktur typisch ist für die Zeit zwischen Schütz und Buxtehude. Gletle ist ein «musikalischer Rhetor» und Textausdeuter von unerschöpflicher Phantasie und bestem handwerklichen Können, der den Vergleich mit den namhaftesten Komponisten der Zeit nicht zu scheuen braucht.
About the Author: Peter Reidemeister studierte nach seiner Ausbildung und langjährigen Praxis als Musiker bei Carl Dahlhaus Musikwissenschaft in Berlin. Ab 1973 war er stellvertretender Leiter, 1978 bis 2005 Leiter der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Lehr- und Forschungsinstitut für Alte Musik an der Musik-Akademie Basel. Hier war er u.a. Herausgeber von 25 Bänden des Basler Jahrbuchs für historische Musikpraxis.
Silja Reidemeister studierte an der Universität Basel Musikwissenschaft und Lateinische Philologie (Bachelor of Arts 2013) und an der Universität Bern Editionsphilologie mit Musikwissenschaft (Master of Arts 2015). Im Rahmen ihrer Masterarbeit hat sie Georg Philipp Telemanns Predigereinführungsmusiken am Telemann-Zentrum in Magdeburg erforscht und ediert.
