Länder - Neuzeit, Absolutismus, Industrialisierung, Note: 1,0, Universität Potsdam, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: "Er hat Mängel und Gebrechen gehabt, er hat große Fehler begangen - aber würden die, die ihn verurteilen, ihn erreicht haben, wenn sie an seiner Stelle gewesen wären?", dieser Ansicht war Voltaire in seinem Werk "Das Zeitalter Ludwigs XIV." (1751). Einer ähnlichen Auffassung folgte auch Mark Twain in "Die Arglosen im Ausland" (1869): "Versailles! Es ist wunderschön. [...] Nichts ist klein - nichts ist billig. [...] Ich hatte Ludwig XIV. immer geschmäht, weil er zweihundert Millionen Dollar dafür ausgegeben hat, diesen wunderbaren Park zu schaffen, als bei manchen seiner Untertanen das Brot so knapp war; aber jetzt habe ich ihm vergeben.". König und Hof trugen ihren Anteil zum kulturellen Aufstieg Frankreichs bei. Rund 10.000 Menschen lebten Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts im Schloss von Versailles, um ihrem König nahe zu sein. Der König verstand sich als Machthaber und Hausherr im großen Gebäude Frankreichs . Diese besondere Form gegenseitiger Loyalität wurde durch die entsprechenden Zeremonien und Förmlichkeiten immer wieder beglaubigt. Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es also sein, das höfisch-soziale System, welches der Befriedung nach innen, der Wehrhaftigkeit nach außen, der Zentralisierung und damit der Effektivierung der absolutistischen Herrschaftsfunktion Ludwigs XIV. diente, anhand der symbolischen Darstellung von Macht eingehend zu untersuchen. Denn die Inszenierung von Macht, Politik und ihren Protagonisten ist, obwohl schon eine Jahrhunderte alte Erscheinung, auch in der modernen massenmedial geprägten Gesellschaft des 21. Jahrhundert noch ein stark diskutiertes Thema. Der britische Historiker Peter Burke hat sich intensiv mit der "Verpackung des Monarchen" befasst.
