Hyma, a beauty, is in love with Sridhar, the the son of her uncle. She romances with him. She pulls up Sridhar, when he chases her with nettle. To marry her he chnges, forhe is determined to marry her. He joins Vemavaram college, passes Inter in First rank, and joins the B.A. course in the same college. Then he comes in contact with Reka, the daughter of the District Judge. She becomes intimate with him. Mahesh, Lecturer in English, falls in with her, and is transferred to a distant place, when the judge, a traditionalist, knows the mind of her daughter. She marries him against the counsel of her dad. He the son of her uncle, Suman. Her mom Manjula is opposed to her wedding with his nephew. Sridhar loves Rekha who is his classmate in the college and university. He savers her from molestation, and helps her to do well in the final examination. She traps in the Araku valley, and becomes his wife first. He is in love with her, and announces his decision to marry her to his parents. He goes to tell his decision to his uncle. When he finds Hyma, he is mesmerised by her stunning beauty, and changes his mind. Suman goes to Krushna, an astrologer to consult him, but comes back without finishing his work. Savita tells her brother that her sons loves Rekha, but is ready to marry Hyma. He enlightens his daughter on his nephew's love for Rekha. She is determined to marry Sridhar, and assures her dad that she can face any challenge, and marries him. He goes to London to continue his research, and weds Julia there, when Hyma agrees to divorce him on mutual consent. Then she is determined to win him by filling her mind with the unfading. Avadhani initiates her into the mantra, Om Sivayanamaha. She tries to empower her mind. Sridhar come back to Visakha with Julia. Will Hyma succeed in winning back her husband? Rekha marries Gopi Krushna, a philandere in Visakha. He is murdered. Will Mahesh get success in marrying his love?The novel veers round three women-Hyma, beauty, Rekha, intellect and Julia, matter. They make the novel an allegory. Gopi Krushna is a warning to philanders. There is a message in the novel that true love triumphs. The third strand in it is on the occult and the divination. Krishna invokes Renuka and talks to her. Renuka rises from his pyre, and disappears in the sky. Her photos of rising are available in Vijayawada.
