Die Memorial-Kapelle der Kaiserin Elisabeth von Österreich in der Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Jubiläumskirche zum Heiligen Franz von Assisi in Wien II., Mexikoplatz ist ein Jugendstil-Juwel erlesener Güte. Durch ihre Lage in der riesigen, spärlich ausgestatteten Jubiläumskirche wird die prunkvolle, intime Kapelle bisher nicht genügend wahrgenommen und gewürdigt. Die Autorin verfolgt die Symbolik der Ausstattung bis zu den Ursprüngen christlicher Kunst zurück und belegt die Absicht des Kaiserhauses Habsburg, sich damit in christlicher Tradition würdig in die Reihe der Ahnen einzugliedern. Als direktes Vorbild für den Bau diente die Pfalzkapelle von Karl dem Großen in Aachen. Der mit Goldgrund-Mosaiken, Wandverkleidungen aus Marmor, exklusiven Leuchten und Einrichtungsgegenständen ausgestattete Sakralraum ist wie frühchristliche Baptisterien als Oktogon ausgeführt und bildet das linke, westliche Seitenschiff der Kirche mit eigenem Chorumgang, vom Hauptschiff durch fünf Stufen und ein Gittertor getrennt. Eine zentral mit dem Medaillon der Heiligen Elisabeth als Fürbitterin der Kaiserin geschmückte begehbare Empore ruht auf sechs Pfeilerarkaden des Erdgeschoßes und wird von einer Kuppel mit Goldgrund-Mosaiken baldachinartig überspannt. Ein Gemmenkreuz ziert die Mitte, umringt von den vier Evangelistensymbolen und sechs stilisierten Engeln, die mit Siegeskränzen dem Kreuz Gottes huldigen. Inschriften in der Kuppel, über dem Altartabernakel und den Emporenbrüstungen weisen den erst 2006/07 renovierten Sakralbau als Memorialkapelle für Kaiserin Elisabeth aus. Durch separate Sammlungen des Roten Kreuzes für die ermordete Kaiserin, seine erste Protektorin, war eine außerordentlich prunkvolle Ausstattung und eine rasche Fertigstellung ermöglicht worden. An der Westseite der reich verzierten Fassade befindet sich ein Relief, welches die Kaiserin vor ihrer Namenspatronin, der Heiligen Elisabeth von Thüringen, zeigt.
