About the Book

Das Werkstattbuch Gesenkschmiede I von Schweißguth t war vergriffen und liegt nun in neuer Bearbeitung vor. Der Verfasser war bemüht, das neue Heft auf den heutigen Stand der Gesenkschmiedetechnik zu ergänzen und dabei die Darlegungen über das Gestalten der Schmiedewerkzeuge schärfer zu gliedern. Viele gute Lehrbeispiele von Schweißguth konnten beibehalten werden. Die Gesenkschmiedeindustrie wurde in Deutschland in der Hauptsache vom Handwerker und Kaufmann geschaffen. Der Ingenieur blieb lange im Hinter. grund. Vor dem Weltkriege gab es nur wenige Ingenieure, die sich mit dem Gesenkschmieden beschäftigten. Nach dem Kriege suchte man auch wissenschaft- lieh den Problemen etwas näher zu kommen. Viel ist noch zu tun. Das neue Heft soll nun als schwierigste Aufgabe beim Gesenkschmieden die Gestaltung der l Schmiedewerkzeuge in größtmöglicher Vielseitigkeit behandeln . Einleitung. Bis in die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts war alles Schmieden ein "Freiform- schmieden". Das Gesenkschmieden kam erst auf mit der Verwendung von Hand-, Seil- und Riemenfallhämmern, zu denen dann von Amerika und England her die Brettfallhämmer und Dampfhämmer hinzukamen. Vor allem hat die mit der Steigerung des Verkehrs und des Maschinenwesens überhaupt entstehende Massen- fertigung von kleinen Schmiedestücken dem Gesenkschmieden seinen Aufschwung und seine Bedeutung gegeben. Trotz hoher Gesenkkosten kann das Gesenk- schmieden schon von 50 Stück an wirtschaftlich sein, zumal die erzeugten Werk- stücke günstige Eigenschaften haben: Gußstücken gegenüber ist die größere Festigkeit und Zähigkeit bei geringerem Gewicht und Rauminhalt kennzeichnend; dazu kommt der größere Widerstand gegen Verschleiß und die Sicherheit gegen Bruch (Verbiegen besser als Brechen!); der Werkstoff ist dicht, und sein Faser.
