About the Book

Isn't it amazing that most people see the need to develop a business plan, in order to do well in business, and yet would never think of a similar structure to organize their own lives? If you would like to create a long-lasting and memorable life experience, you must collate all your interests, preferences, wishes, desires and needs into a life plan. This little book is a demonstration of how Dr. Benson N. Modie documented his own concerns about the status of modern human life (or what he calls the "Burning Platform"), and how he plans to play a role to contribute toward creating a better future for himself and the rest of humanity. In this book, which represents Dr. Modie's vision for the future, he shares with you how he was able to not just worry about his concerns in life, but instead developed a life plan (this document) to allow him to accomplish some of his desires for a better life. Although a personal document (previously compiled back in 2007) Dr. Modie decided to release his vision for the future with the aim to encourage others to learn, and hopefully inspire them to develop their own life plans. Commonly, people in general tend to look-up to governments and other world bodies charged with ensuring human welfare programmes, and often see themselves as being powerless to effect any meaningful changes in their own lives. By sharing his vision document, Dr. Modie hopes to demonstrate the ability that all people, in their individual levels, can strategize their lives and manage to meet some of their needs, without having to wait all the time for political decisions or other types of assistance from somewhere. In other words, there is always something that one can do, as an individual or a small entity, to contribute and add value to life, no matter how little or insignificant it might seem.
About the Author: Benson N. Modie (B.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D.) is a geologist, lecturer, personal development trainer and blogger. He is the founder and current managing director of the Centre for Knowledge (CfK), Botswana, a project created to provide life coaching in people skills on the management-of-self-in-life. The CfK, established in 2008, is a project that represents Dr. Ben Modie's mission of promoting human resources effectiveness through motivational and personal development seminars. He is also currently a lecturer at the University of Botswana, where he teaches geology to undergraduate students. Dr. Modie has spent over 20 years in the Botswana Public Service, working as a geologist and a manager, and it was during this period that he developed interest in educational initiatives for the enhancement of human resources effectiveness. He previously studied at the universities of Botswana (1984 - 1988), Wales, Aberystwyth (1992 - 1994), and Brest (2003 - 2007). Dr. Modie's philosophy is that "success begins with the individual, and that the learning process is the first thing". In other words, for any entity (i.e. individuals, society, work and business organizations etc.) to succeed, in realizing its goals or vision, it is critical that the individuals that make up such an entity are themselves well-established with regard to basic competencies of human effectiveness. The latter refers to such traits as commitment, confidence, envisioning, knowledge response, learning receptivity, resilience, self-analysis, self-starting, synergy etc. No doubt every individual or organization that desires to succeed necessarily require these qualities, irrespective of the level of academic success attained. Dr. Modie has written a couple of books on motivation and personal development since 2012, and also continues to provide seminars and workshops.
