About the Book

Finding Your Way: Navigating Your Future by Understanding Your Learning Self is based on the premise that when you take control of your learning, you are taking control of your future! After all, learning defines who we are and how we behave; it defines how others perceive us and interact with us; it develops our capacity and molds our future. When we know how we learn, we can use our minds with intention to be proactive in the classroom, to select a fulfilling career, and to navigate the work world of the 21st century. As Stephen Lehmkuhle, Chancellor, University of Minnesota Rochester states, "We need a better understanding of how we learn so we can breakthrough and handle the learning punches that come at us everyday." Finding Your Way: Navigating Your Future by Understanding Your Learning Self equips individuals to endure the learning punches experienced in the classroom and workplace. Most importantly it prepares us to respond to these changes and challenges using personal learning tools to enhance the work of our minds. A key feature of the book is the self-report instrument, the Learning Connections Inventory, which is embedded in the text for use by the reader.
About the Author: Dr. Christine A. Johnston, originator and lead researcher of the Let Me Learn Process(R), an advanced learning system, has an abiding passion for helping people to understand themselves as learners and to improve their learning and their relationships with others. Her work spans four decades and several continents, including working with K-12 districts and public and private universities across the United States, the United Kingdom, Central Europe, the Mediterranean Rim, and Australia. Christine's professional life as teacher, school administrator, trainer-consultant, and professor has included serving as a program officer in the State of Illinois Department of Local Government Affairs; Director of the Center for the Advancement of Learning at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ; and founding member of the Compass Academy Charter School, a LML lab school and lighthouse district. During Christine's academic career in higher education she served in two capacities: professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ, and later as Director of the Center for the Advancement of Learning where she conducted K-16 research on learning. In 2010 she published Finding Your Way: Navigating Your Life by Understanding Your Learning Self, as a guide for professionals to achieve greater success and fulfillment in personal and professional lives. Educators, students, job trainers and other professionals and individuals have used the self-guided text worldwide. In 2013 she authored Intentional Learning for College Success which has been used by over 25,000 students to increase their persistence and retention in higher education. In this latest text, focused on collegiate learners, she is seeking to help students find greater success through knowing how to leverage themselves as learners in both the classroom and the world of work.
