23. März 1899 - Fritz Teuber, Erich Moser und David Mandel werden geboren. Ganz unterschiedlich sind die Milieus, in die sie hineingeboren werden. Teubers Vater ist ein kleinbürgerlicher kaisertreuer Amtsschreiber, im Vater Mosers schlägt glühendrot ein sozialdemokratisches Herz, und der Vater des kleinen Mandel ist ein arrivierter jüdischer Kunsthändler. Die Geschicke dieser drei Familien sind durch merkwürdige Zufälle über hundert Jahre hinweg miteinander verwoben. 23. März 1999 - auf einer Intensivstation ringt ein Mann mit dem Tod, und erst unmittelbar danach begreift die junge Ärztin Nikola, wie sehr dieser Unbekannte mit ihr, mit ihrer Mutter Jana und deren verworrener Lebensgeschichte verwoben ist. Hundert Jahre zwischen den drei Geburten und einem einsamen Tod. Hundert Jahre deutscher Geschichte: das Begräbnis von Wilhelm Liebknecht, die böse Posse des Hauptmanns von Köpenick, der Auftritt Hitlers im Hofbräuhaus, Bücherverbrennung und die Pogromnacht. Nach dem Krieg Mauerbau, Demonstrationen gegen den Schah von Persien und den Vietnamkrieg. Aufstieg und Ende der RAF. Schicksalhaft sind die drei Familien an diesen Ereignissen beteiligt, als Akteure und Opfer oder als zufällig Beteiligte. Wie Zeit verläuft, scheint unzuverlässig zu sein, und so nimmt es nicht wunder, dass gerade das berühmteste Gemälde des Surrealismus, Salvatore Dalis 'Die Beständigkeit der Erinnerung', das mit seinen Camembert-Uhren das 'Verlaufen der Zeit' wörtlich nimmt, ein zentrales Motiv des Romans ist.
About the Author: 1943 in Recklinghausen geboren, studierte Werbewirtschaft an der Staatlichen Akademie für Graphik, Druck und Werbung in Berlin sowie Germanistik und Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der Ruhr Universität in Bochum, arbeitete als Werbeleiter, Marketingassistent und Produktmanager in München und Bielefeld. Bis 2009 Lehrer und Ausbilder von Lehrerinnen und Lehrern in Bielefeld. 1966 - 1967 Mitinhaber der Galerie Beinroth & Sindern in Berlin. Seit 1997 Mitarbeit am Amalthea-Theater in Paderborn.
