English summary: New French translation of the fifth century BCE author, Aeschyluss, Agamemnon, which follows the king of the same name after his return from Troy to his death at the hands of his wife, Clytemnestra. French description: Nouvelle traduction issue des travaux de Pierre Judet de la Combe depuis plus de vingt ans. Agamemnon est le premier volet de la trilogie de L'Orestie, appartenant au cycle troyen d'Eschyle (tragedies donnees pour la premiere fois sur scene en 458 avant J.-C.). Il debute par la chute de Troie apres dix annees d'attente. Le roi Agamemnon rentre triomphalement dans sa cite d'Argos ou la prophetesse captive, Cassandre, annonce sa mort. Il sera tue par son epouse Clytemnestre.
About the Author: Eschyle (525-456 av. J.-C.) est ne a Eleusis dans une famille d'Eupatrides. Il a vu la chute de la tyrannie et la mise en place des reformes de Clisthene qui devaient conduire Athenes a la democratie. Il aurait en outre participe, contre les Perses, aux batailles de Marathon et de Salamine. Il est pour nous le premier des grands tragiques. Reconnu de son vivant, il bouleverse les regles du theatre en introduisant un deuxieme acteur sur scene. Ses pieces ont une forte valeur morale, dans un style grandiose et image. Sur les soixante-treize oeuvres qu'il aurait ecrites, sept nous sont parvenues. Parmi elles se trouve la seule trilogie dont nous disposons, L'Orestie, qui relate l'assassinat d'Agamemnon a son retour de Troie, puis celui de Clytemnestre par son fils, et, enfin, le proces d'Oreste. De lui nous possedons encore Promethee Enchaine, Les Sept contre Thebes, Les Suppliantes et Les Perses. Pierre Judet de la Combe (1949 -) est helleniste, agrege de grammaire, et directeur de recherches a l'EHESS. Specialiste des auteurs de theatre grecs, il a soutenu en 1981 sa these a l'universite Lille III (La reflexion lyrique dans l'Agamemnon d'Eschyle) sous la direction de Jean Bollack, qui a donne lieu a une publication en deux volumes aux Presses Universitaires de Lille (1981 et 1982). Auteur de Les tragedies grecques sont-elles tragiques ? Theatre et theorie (Bayard Editions, 2010), il a deja traduit Medee d'Euripide (2012) et Les Grenouilles d'Aristophane (2012) pour la collection des Classiques en poche aux Belles Lettres.
