Un joven, nacido en Torcy, en la región de París, se llama Eugène, sus padres son trabajadores.

Es un poco reservado, sale de la pubertad, se abre a los demás, la mujer libera a los jóvenes solitarios encerrados en una camisa de fuerza de cosas no dichas. Sin duda, esta timidez escondía un malestar. No tiene problemas de conducta, a menos que considere que la timidez es uno de ellos.

Sigue a un grupo que sale de la escuela secundaria, Pauline está allí, es tan hermosa que lo persigue por las noches. Ese día, ella forma su brújula, él la sigue, mirándola sólo a ella. Está enamorado de su anatomía. Él nunca habló con ella.

Eugene es un soñador, se ve embarcado en una peligrosa aventura porque estaba enamorado de una chica. De las tonterías de los escolares, cometen delitos cada vez más graves. Es estimulante violar la ley.

Realmente no quería ir más allá de lo permitido, la presencia de Pauline destruyó su capacidad de juzgar. Sus amigos desean comportarse mal.

La falta de reacción de su entorno inmediato se debe en parte al hecho de que los actos criminales no son actos de violencia como apuñalamientos o el uso de armas artificiales. No están acusados de violencia agravada ni de agresión sexual. No es visible, la víctima no sufre. No se puede crear ningún movimiento de empatía, no nos compadecemos de la víctima.

Este libro relata dos destinos que chocarán sin encontrarse. Uno asume plenamente la delincuencia, el otro sólo ve chistes de escolares. 18 es la edad estúpida según algunos, lo dijimos hace unos años.

Seguimos el viaje del hijo de un fiscal, este último resulta muy apegado a los principios jurídicos, su hijo sólo piensa en triunfar sin cansarse. Su padre interviene a menudo para tapar las brechas. Sube la escalera con el apoyo de su padre, aparte de cometer delitos, engañar a todos, es un ocioso. Quiere poder. Este comportamiento atípico no genera ninguna reacción por parte del padre, peor aún, lo encubren, actúa para que la justicia nunca se entere.

Con la ayuda de su padre, ingresa en Dauphine, la facultad para ello es la fiesta, el disfrute de la vida, el dinero que quemamos. Esta juventud no tiene límites ni salvaguardas. Las prohibiciones ya no existen, todo es factible.
En este momento, Eugène viene al mundo.

Por casualidad, conocen al hijo del magistrado convertido en político y notable parisino. Las trayectorias chocan, es un choque. Un encuentro que nunca debería haber tenido lugar. El choque es frontal.
