Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Pflegewissenschaft - Pflegemanagement, Note: 1,3, Hamburger Fern-Hochschule, Veranstaltung: Gesundheitswissenschaft, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Diagnose Krebs erhalten jährlich rund 436.000 Menschen in Deutschland (vgl. RKI, GEKID 2008:12). Bislang können nur etwa 45% dieser Menschen durch operative, strahlen- und/ oder chemotherapeutische Behandlungen geheilt werden. Folglich gelten 55% aller an Krebs erkrankten Menschen als nicht heilbar (vgl. KLASCHIK, NAUCK 1996: 17). Diese Erkrankten bilden die größte Patientengruppe in der Palliativmedizin. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit befasst sich mit einem Einblick in das Themengebiet der Epidemiologie von Krebserkrankungen und beschreibt Risikofaktoren für deren Entstehung. Nach einem Überblick über die Inzidenz, Überlebensraten und Mortalität der häufigsten Krebserkrankungen in der BRD werden die individuellen Krankheitsfolgen für die Betroffenen, ihr soziales Umfeld und die Gesellschaft beschrieben. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird die Palliativstation als eine Möglichkeit zur Versorgung schwerstkranker und sterbender Krebspatienten vorgestellt. Auf einer Palliativstation werden neben Patienten mit onkologischen Erkrankungen auch Patienten mit AIDS, chronisch progredienten neurologischen und internistischen oder geriatrischen Krankheitsbildern betreut. Die vorliegende Arbeit bezieht sich allerdings nur die onkologischen Patienten. Das Palliative Care- Konzept zeigt, dass in einer Lebens- und Krankheitsphase, in der medizinisch keine Heilung mehr erreicht werden kann, doch eine Möglichkeit besteht, die verbleibende Lebenszeit des Erkrankten auf die bestmöglicher Lebensqualität auszurichten. Abschließend folgt nach einer kurzen Zusammenfassung der wichtigsten Inhalte der Arbeit ein Ausblick über Herausforderungen an die Pflege, die aufgrund der Zunahme der Zahl von Krebskranken entstehen werden.
